Bachelorette Party Cakes & Food Tips

A Sophisticated Dinner

If drunken revelry is not your bachelorette's style, consider taking her for a feast instead. Find out the bride's food preferences and take her for her favorite cuisine, or go for a more general high-quality restaurant for her bachelorette dinner.

Look for restaurants in the restaurant guide in your local paper (keep an eye out for reviews and recommendations) and tourist information centers. Be sure to call around to see if you can get a good deal if you are bringing a large party, and to see if you can book a private room. Booking somewhere that your group can almost completely take over is preferable to a large, busy restaurant, so don't be shy of the smaller places.

Keep It Simple

Bachelorette Superstore Tip: It's important to keep in mind that not all bachelorettes want a wild and kinky party. Bachelorette parties can be a disaster if the bride only wants to run away and hide from all the attention. Some brides put their foot down from the start to prevent any misunderstandings, but this doesn't mean that all recognition of her bachelorette status has to be avoided on the night out. The good news is that bachelorette party supplies sell more than inflated penises and tiaras. Check out your local party suppliers or go on line for low-profile party supplies like themed bachelorette party drink koozies or shot glasses, and PG-rated bachelorette party games and decorations.

Bachelorette Party On A Budget

If finances are tight right before the wedding, there is no crime in having a bachelorette dinner at home for your bachelorette party. It allows all of the bachelorette's friends to enjoy themselves in a cozy, safe environment. Holding the party at a private home also allows more room to plan; as organizers can have control over decorations, beverages and food, everything can be woven into the theme.

If you do not have a theme planned, consider asking the bride's mother for recipes of the bride's favorite meals as a child. There is nothing like a feast of comfort food to de-stress a bride before the big day. Another option is to hold a pot-luck dinner with a difference, asking each guest to bring something they know the bride will love.

Careful planning is the key to a successful bachelorette dinner, so make sure all decorations, drink supplies and music is set up well before the due day. Instead of having to run around getting drinks during the bachelorette dinner, pick a couple of wines that will complement the food being served and keep the cocktails and shots for later.

The 'Bachelorette Party At Home' Essentials

Here is a step-by step planner for holding a bachelorette dinner at a private residence. Adapt it to suit your theme.

  1. Decide on the theme, date and venue for the party one to two months before. Budget for the party.
  2. Send out invites one month before. This is your only chance to inform guests what to bring and what style of party it will be.
  3. Begin to organise all the decorations you will need. If you are ordering online, check how many weeks before delivery and order accordingly. Get all decorations organized two weeks before party, finalize drinks lists and food. Create a song list and burn the CDs needed for the party – you will need around four hours of music, generally lively at the beginning, dance music in the middle and calmer music for the very end.
  4. The week of the party, pick up drink supplies and organize any costume you need.
  5. The day before the party, get the snacks organized. Prepare any food that can survive overnight.
  6. On the day, cook the main dishes. If you are not sitting down to dinner, make things easier on yourself by making easy fresh dips like guacamole, tzatziki and pesto. These are easy to prepare, delicious and healthy. (for recipes, see the Party Treats tip)

Recipes for That Penis Cake Tin

When cooking any cake, you can go two ways; attempt to maintain your grip on healthiness, or go absolutely crazy and indulge. Here are recipes for either option:

1. Banana Cake (not evil)

Take several bananas (up to 6 large ones), one cup of margarine, one cup honey, one egg and two cups of wholemeal self-raising flour. If the bananas aren't ripe, mash them and leave them uncovered for an hour before beginning.

Mix the egg into the bananas, pour in the honey, flour and margarine. Cook at 160C until batter no longer clings to a skewer when inserted into the middle. Be careful not cook the cake too long to prevent it from drying out. Ice either by mixing some low-fat cream cheese with a little icing sugar, Maple syrup icing or none at all.

2. Coffee-chocolate cake (completely evil)

Mix up an ordinary vanilla cake, adding ¼ cup very strong coffee. Dot the mixture with choc buds and cook as per instructions. When the cake is cooked and is cooling, melt 200g and mix in ½ cup of cream gradually, stopping when the mix begins to stiffen. Divide the mix in half, adding a few teaspoons of rum or other spirit to one half. Cut the cooled cake lengthways and spread the spirit-spiked chocolate ganache over it to form a sandwich. Use the other half of the ganache to ice.

Dressing Up Your Drinks

Bachelorette Superstore Tip: Giving each guest an identifier like the items above not only ensures that everyone joins in, but also makes it easier to keep track of a large group of women as you rove around town. Party suppliers and specialist bachelorette stores will often stock smaller items like penis straws or bachelorette drinking cups that mainstream stores don't have. Look online to see what is available.

Party Treats

If you're cooking for your bachelorette dinner, there are some easy snacks you can prepare that are delicious and more sophisticated than general party food. Explore the possibilities of pumpernickel topped with contrasting flavors, simple desserts and dips. Here are some recipes:

*pumpernickel canapés – cut circles in pumpernickel bread. Lightly whip some low-fat cream cheese to aerate it, and place onto the circles. Cut red peppers in half and put under the grill, skin up, until the skin blackens. Peel off the skin and cut the pepper into strips, then lay strips over the cream cheese.

*guacamole – mash an avocado and add one teaspoon of lemon juice, some finely chopped onion and a half-teaspoon of freshly chopped chili. Cover and refrigerate for an hour or two before serving.

*tzatziki – take one cup of natural yogurt, add finely chopped cucumber and half a teaspoon of fresh garlic. Cover and refrigerate for an hour before serving.

*easy mille fieulle – cut sheets of puff pastry into squares around 10cm x 10cm each. Gently trace another square 1cm inside each square piece, then brush with some milk and bake. The squares should puff but have a border. Allow the squares to cool, then whip some cream with a little sugar and pipe on top of each pastry, adding strawberries and a sprinkling of icing sugar.

Fill Those Low Moments

Bachelorette Superstore Tip: Everyone at the party knows the bride-to-be is there to have fun, and adding a little joke element to that can't hurt. Make your bachelorette dance with a toy ball and chain, perform a dare, or ask the bartender for his phone number – but remember to keep the crazy stunts for later in the evening. When purchasing a ball and chain for the bride-to-be, make sure that the chain won't irritate or scratch if you plan for her to wear it the whole evening. Toy ball and chains can have rough edges and are possibly better worn for only part of the night.

Fill Those Low Moments

With every party, there are occasional periods of low energy that without careful planning can completely ruin the atmosphere. If you are planning a bachelorette party, it is a good idea to have some contingency plans in mind for these periods as you help your friend celebrate the gain of a ball and chain; things like a party game, a song suggestion or some drink ideas.

Liven up the party with a treat-filled piñata at your bachelorette party or shower. A piñata is a good treat to bring out in the early-middle period of the party, just after everyone has got to know each other but still need encouragement to party. Being a physical activity, the piñata will get the adrenaline pumping and hopefully the fun will too!

Dressing Up Your Drinks

If the bride puts her foot down and forbids the silly veils, inflated condoms and penis cuddly toys, don't despair. There are subtle ways to indicate to outsiders that you are a bachelorette party without going crazy, without spending large sums of money on t-shirts and without isolating everyone.

Consider giving each guest a personalized drink bottle to keep tabs of their drinks throughout the night. Going out for the evening and can't take drinks with you? Look at smaller items such as bachelorette or penis straws to dress up the drinks. Provide guests with name tags or drink koozies to have them join in the fun.

Ideas for Bachelorette Cakes

Want to have a bachelorette cake at the party, but don't want to feast on a giant penis cake? A shaped cake is easier to make than you think. Keep your eye out for ideas for a cake that truly suits your bachelorette – whether it be sport themed, pretty and girly or even naughty.

Here are some ideas and instructions:

*Dolly cake- make up your usual cake mix but cook in a domed pudding tin. Get a Barbie-sized doll (possibly not a real Barbie) and rip her legs off, sticking the bottom half of her torso into the top of the cake. Pipe icing mix over the cake, decorating it to look like the skirt of her dress, and decorate the doll's torso to match.

*Boob cake- cook two round cakes, sit them side by side (touching) and ice with a light pink icing mixture. Make up a small amount of darker pink icing and pipe on to create nipples. Take a clean, lacy, non-underwire bra and drape carefully over the cakes to create the effect of boobs in a brazierre (you may need DD cups depending on the size of the cakes).

*Butterfly cakes- cook a batch of cupcakes. Once the cakes are cool, cut a circle out of the top of each one, leaving a small crevice in the cake. Whip up some cream and pipe into the cakes, then cut each of the cut-out circles in half and place on the cream, tips turned up to resemble a butterfly. Sprinkle icing sugar over the cakes and arrange to serve.

Naughty Baking

So, you want an X-rated cake but don't want to drop the cash on one at a bakery that specializes in them? Those things can be pricey and there are other naughty suggestions on bachelorette party refreshments. Many adult stores sell X-rated cake molds that can assist you with your erotic cake decorating endeavors. Chances are that an occasion will arise where you or someone else will want to use it again or you could always sell it on eBay. Pick one up and get cooking.

Erotic cake pans work with any cake mix that you pick up at the grocery store or make from scratch. Don't forget the icing! Depending on what kind of flesh tone you're going for, playing around with food coloring can help you achieve it. Start out with white icing and mix colors until you reach your desired hue.

Keep It Simple

Friends need to be understanding about a bride's wish to avoid an attention-attracting situation, but still recognize that it is her special night out. Keep a look-out for things that will signify the bride-to-be's status but still allow her to keep a low profile. See how she would feel about wearing a fashionable t-shirt with 'bride' on it, or even just a bachelorette drink bottle. If all else fails, a simple bachelorette party drink koozie should be low-profile enough for any bride-to-be.

Dressing Up A Bachelorette Dinner

When cooking that gag gift of penis pasta it is essential to choose your sauces carefully. Your best bet is a basic aglio e olio (oil and garlic) sauce. Sautee a little fresh garlic in some good quality olive oil. When the garlic has softened but hasn't browned, take it off the heat and add some olives, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes or even just some parmesan cheese, then toss the cooked pasta through the mix.

Similar techniques can be used to dress up other joke snacks (see the recipes for penis cakes tip).

Sweets to Go

Looking for suggestions on bachelorette party refreshments? Try making a little something for your guests to take home. If you prefer that the goodies you send home with your guests are more sweet than naughty, get cookin'! Bake up batches of sugar cookies and paint cute messages on them in icing (Lizzie's Night, Last Fling, Girls Night, etc.). Pack them up in little baggies tied up with bows and labeled with each guest's name. This is a cheap goodie giveaway that is sure to earn smiles for it's personal feel. *If you want to add a tiny bit of naughtiness to the treats, attach each bundle to a penis sucker (so that they resemble hobo knapsacks).

Bite Me for a Price

There comes a time when girls must band together for a greater good. In an effort to collect cash for the future bride, have each guest wear a candy necklace and a name tag that reads "suck for a buck" or "bite me for a price." It's inevitable that curious men will approach. And, when you've caught someone's attention, inform him that he can have a tasty nibble for a price.

If you go the "bite me for a price" route you're at liberty to request whatever amount you'd like for each bite (depending on the attractiveness of the guy, of course). There are a large amount of candy pieces on each necklace so, depending on how many ladies are present, it's likely that you will earn a large stash of cash for the bride-to-be.
